Sending off can't stop England U20 revenge mission over Wales

Ollie Streeter was sent off, but it wasn’t enough to stop England U20 from gaining revenge on Wales for costing them the Six Nations title by claiming a 51-13 victory in their World Rugby U20 Championship 5th place semi-final.

Harlequins tighthead Streeter was sent off after 22 minutes for an illegal clear-out on his opposite number, Sam Scott, at the Stadio Luigi Zaffanella, Viadana – the second Red Rose player to be dismissed in the tournament.

George Timmins was sent off in their opening game against Scotland, and luckily again, it didn’t cost England, who gained revenge for their 23-13 Six Nations defeat in March 2025.

England had won the last four Junior Cup meetings, with Wales making a slow, flat and mistake-riddled start, offering no ball security, and Wilde made them pay, landing two penalties inside the first 15 minutes.

Wales were winning the small battles around the ruck and England needed some inspiration – which they thought they had through inside centre Will Knight when he danced through for what they thought was a 22nd-minute try.

But the eagle-eyed TMO spotted Streeter using his shoulder illegally and chalked it off, and referee Peter Martin sent him into the bunker. His yellow card was soon upgraded.

England got back into the game when they were awarded a 29th-minute penalty try after Wales brought down a maul, which saw Nick Thomas sin-binned.

But within a minute, Sion Davies collected Steffan Emanuel’s clever chip ahead, though England regained the lead after 32 minutes when Campbell Ridl ran in a cut-out ball over the top.

England didn’t look back, with Archie McParland scoring a try on the stroke of half-time, and the second half was one-way traffic, with Josh Bellamy collecting their third try after 54 minutes.

Jack Bracken took advantage of Wales failing to take control of a bouncing ball to squeeze home for his fifth try of the tournament after 60 minutes, three minutes before Noah Caluori sent McParland in for his second try.

Ben Coen landed two penalties when Wales lost Ryan Jones to the sin-bin before Nick Lilley scored a late try that Coen converted to take his tally to 14 points.
