AS Béziers Hérault
AS Béziers Hérault, typically known as Béziers, is a French rugby union club that plays in France’s second division, the Pro D2.
The Béziers rugby team began to win major honours in the 1960s. They started the decade with their first French championship win in 1961, when they defeated US Dax. They also finished as runners-up in the competition in 1960, 1962 and 1964.
The 1970s were an exceptional decade for the club, who went on to win the French Championship several times. They claimed the title in 1971, 1972, 1974, 1975, 1977, and 1978. They also won the Challenge Yves du Manoir in 1972, 1975, and 1977.
The winning streak for the Béziers rugby team continued into the 1980s, and the team was crowned as French champions in 1980, 1981, 1983, and 1984. They also won the Coupe de France in 1986.
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Béziers were a force to be reckoned with in French rugby union. However, the team’s fortunes changed in the 1990s. Following this, at the conclusion of the 2004-05 season, they were relegated to the Pro D2. Later in the decade, they were then relegated to the Fédérale 1.
In the 2011-12 season, the club returned to the professional ranks after being promoted to the Pro D2 following a 13-6 win against Périgueux in the 2011 Fédérale 1 final.
Béziers has had mixed success over the years and we hope to one day see them return to the glory days seen in the 1970s and 80s.
