Louis Rees-Zammit Bio

Louis Rees-Zammit was born in Penarth in the Vale of Glamorgan on 2 February 2001. Thanks to his family, he took a keen interest in both rugby union and the NFL from an early age.

In his youth, Rees-Zammit played rugby at the Cardiff Blues academy. He excelled during this period and was ultimately named in the Cardiff Schools Team of the Decade. During this period of his career, he also became a regular part of the Wales U18s team.

In 2017, Rees-Zammit transferred to Hartpury College, the academy of Gloucester Rugby. He then debuted for the senior team in the 2019-2020 season. In doing so, he became the youngest player to ever make an appearance for the club, aged just 18 years and 70 days. In his first season with the side, he was awarded Gloucester's young player of the year award.

Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long for Louis Rees-Zammit to make his debut for Wales. He first pulled on the famous red jersey in October 2020, in a game against France in Paris. He scored his first try for his country a month later.

In 2021, Rees-Zammit again made headlines when he was named in the British and Irish Lions squad for the team’s three-test series against South Africa. Aged just 20 years and 93 days, he was the youngest player to be selected since the 1959 Lions tour to Australia and New Zealand. Although he didn’t appear in a test on the tour, he did score three tries in four appearances.

Fast forward to January 2024 and Louis Rees-Zammit shocked the rugby world when he announced his retirement from the sport so that he could train in American football through the National Football League's (NFL) International Player Pathway Program (IPPP).

A couple of months later, he officially signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. He made three pre-season appearances with the squad but didn’t make the team’s final roster. As a result, he became a free agent and signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He then re-signed with the team and joined their active roster in February 2025.

Louis Rees-Zammit may be focused on his NFL career at the moment, but we’re still cheering on this lightning-quick Welsh winger.
