Maro Itoje Bio

Born as Oghenemaro Miles Itoje on 28 October 1994, Maro Itoje was introduced to rugby at the age of 11. His talent showed at a young age and he was offered a scholarship to Harrow School where he ultimately played basketball, football, rugby and athletics. Due to his strength and power, he also represented England at under 17 level in shot put.

Upon deciding to play rugby professionally in 2012, Maro Itoje signed for Saracens. He’s stayed with the club ever since and has been incredibly successful, capturing multiple Premiership Rugby titles and European Rugby Champions Cups.

Due to his success at domestic level, Maro Itoje received his first England cap against Italy in the Six Nations Championship in 2016. Later in the tournament, he was Man of the Match against Wales and featured regularly as England claimed the Grand Slam

Ever since, he’s been an automatic starter for England and he’s appeared almost 100 times for his country. During this time, he’s won the Six Nations Championship multiple times and the Autumn Nations Cup. Added to this, he also represented his country in a Rugby World Cup final in 2019. In 2025, he was given the captaincy of England for the first time at the 2025 Six Nations Championship.

As well as being a standout performer for England, Maro Itoje has also enjoyed a fantastic career with the British and Irish Lions. In 2017, he was named in the squad to face New Zealand despite the fact that he was only 22 at the time. On the tour, he appeared in all three tests as the Lions claimed a historic draw. He then followed the same path four years later, appearing in all three tests as the Lions lost a tightly-contested series 2-1.

This year, he has claimed what many believe to be one of rugby’s ultimate accolades. After showing his skills as England captain in early 2025, Maro Itoje was given the honour of captaining the British and Irish Lions for their 2025 tour of Australia

Still very much at the top of his game and with plenty left to offer Saracens, England and the British and Irish Lions, we can’t wait to see what Maro Itoje does next.
