Finlay Smith Bio

Born on 11 May 2002, Fin Smith started playing rugby at local club Shipston-on-Stour and Warwick School before he joined the Worcester Warriors Academy.

On 27 February 2021, Fin Smith made his Northampton debut against Gloucester. In doing so, he became only the second 18-year-old to represent Worcester Warriors in the top flight.

Following a brief spell on loan at Ampthill, Smith returned to Worcester Warriors and played in the side that won the final of the Premiership Rugby Cup in 2022. This was the club’s first ever top-flight trophy.

Sadly, in October 2022, every Worcester Warriors player had their contract terminated as the company that owned the club was placed into liquidation. As a result, Fin Smith joined Northampton Saints.

Fin Smith has stayed with Northampton ever since and has taken his game to new heights. In 2023-24, he was named in the Premiership Rugby Team of the Season and he also won the RPA Players' Player of the Year award. A year later, he played for Northampton in the final of the European Rugby Champions Cup

Fin Smith has enjoyed a similar level of success on the international stage. He won the grand slam with England U20s at the 2021 U20s Six Nations Championship before he made his debut with the senior squad in 2024.

Since, he’s become a regular starter for England. When he made his first start for his country against Italy at the 2025 Six Nations Championship, he won the man of the match award. In the next round of fixtures, he kicked the winning penalty as England defeated Scotland 16-15.

Thanks to his performances for club and country, Fin Smith was called up to represent the British and Irish Lions on the team’s 2025 tour of Australia

Still young and with his best years ahead of him, we can’t wait to see the heights Fin Smith can reach in the game.
