Leigh Halfpenny Bio

Born 22 December 1988, Leigh Halfpenny started playing rugby during his school years and he was signed as a youth by Ospreys in 2005. He then progressed quickly, representing Neath and Cardiff RFC before ultimately signing for the Cardiff Blues.

Between 2008 and 2014, Leigh Halfpenny made 87 appearances and scored an impressive 568 points for the Cardiff Blues. However, injuries plagued the later part of his career with the side and he left to join Toulon at the end of the 2014 season.

During his time in France, Halfpenny helped Toulon win three successive Heineken Champions Cups. However, after his contract expired, he returned to Wales and joined Scarlets on a three-year contract. He then followed this with an injury-raved season with Crusaders in Super Rugby before signing with Harlequins in 2024. He left the club at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season.

Although Leigh Halfpenny has enjoyed a distinguished career at domestic level, he's saved some of his greatest performances for the international stage.

Halfpenny rose through the Welsh junior setup, appearing for the national side at U16, U18, U19 and U20 level before he made his full international debut in 2008. Between then and his international retirement in 2023, he was capped 101 times and amassed 801 points.

On top of this, during his illustrious international career, he was named in British and Irish Lions squads in 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2021. As well as being capped in four tests, he was also voted as the player of the series in 2013.

Leigh Halfpenny’s international career may now be at a close, but he still has plenty to offer on the domestic stage. We can’t wait to see what he does next.
