One-Test Wallaby Tane Edmed will wear a new team’s colours in Super Rugby Pacific from next season, leaving the NSW Waratahs for the ACT Brumbies on a two-year deal.

Edmed played three minutes on debut for the Wallabies last November against Ireland, but was recently selected to play for the AUNZ Invitational XV against the British & Irish Lions.

With Noah Lolesio leaving the nation’s capital, signing Edmed is an important bit of business from the Brumbies, with the fly-half set to compete with Declan Meredith for the starting spot.

Edmed played 52 matches in sky blue for the Tahs, which included 12 appearances for the club under coach Dan McKellar in 2025. After playing for the Wallabies, Edmed started the year as the Tahs’ first-choice No. 1,0 but that it didn’t stay that way for the course of the season.

Lawson Creighton enjoyed a decent stretch of games as the starting playmaker before Jack Bowen took control of that position late in the season. Bowen started against the Lions in the Tahs’ clash in Sydney, with Edmed coming off the bench in that historic showdown.

“I’m super excited to be joining such a strong and consistent organisation in the Brumbies,” Edmed said.

“My development as a rugby player is first and foremost and the Brumbies is a place that seems to make all their players better.

“I can’t wait to get down to Canberra and get stuck in.”

Edmed wore the No. 10 in early season fixtures against the Highlanders and Fijian Drua, before Creighton was given a shot to start against the Western Force in round four.

Cach McKellar kept Creighton in the run-on side for a fair while, with Edmed coming off the pine in six consecutive appearances.

After impressing off the bench, Edmed returned to the First XV against the Queensland Reds in Sydney. Edmed was also named as the Tahs’ chief game-driver against the Crusaders and Western Force deep into the season.

Former All Blacks coach Ian Foster spoke positively about Edmed’s performance for the AUNZ Invitational XV against the Lions, with the fly-half starting alongside the likes of David Havili, Lukhan Salakaia-Loto, Pete Samu and Ngani Laumape.

Edmed was also recently included in the Wallabies’ wider-training squad ahead of the Fiji Test, showing the playmaker is still in the mix for higher honours. With Edmed moving to the capital to train under Wallabies great Stephen Larkham, this is an exciting move for the club.

“We’re delighted to sign Tane in what we see as the prime of his rugby career,” Larkham said.

“When he’s been given the opportunity to play, he has delivered and shown what a good footballer he is.

“We believe Tane can develop his game further in Canberra and will be a great fit within the team. We’re really looking forward to working with him.”
