The Otago rugby team is a professional rugby team that is based in Dunedin, New Zealand. The team competes in New Zealand's Bunnings NPC competition and is affiliated with the Highlanders Super Rugby Pacific franchise.

The history of the Otago rugby team dates back to 1881, when the Otago rugby union was first formed. However, the modern version of the Otago rugby team that we know today was established in 1976, when the National Provincial Championship was first formed. Today, this competition is known as the Bunnings NPC.
The Otago rugby team has competed in the Bunnings NPC since the competition was first formed. During this time, the team has been crowned as the overall champions on two occasions, in 1991 and 1998.
Today, the Otago rugby team plays in the championship division of the competition. They play their home games at the Forsyth Barr Stadium, which has a capacity of more than 30,000.
Although the team currently competes in the championship division of the Bunnings NPC, the Otago rugby squad contains several international players, including Jermaine Ainsley who has been capped by the Wallabies, current All Black George Bower and Samoan star Jonah Aoina.
In addition to this, the current Otago rugby squad also contains a great number of players who are also contracted to play Super Rugby Pacific. More than 10 members of the current squad are contracted to play for the Highlanders, while George Bower represents the Crusaders.
