Hawkes Bay Rugby Team

The Hawke's Bay rugby team, often referred to as the Hawke's Bay Magpies, is a professional rugby team in New Zealand that competes in the Bunnings NPC. The team is also affiliated with the Hurricanes Super Rugby Pacific franchise.

Read on to discover even more about the Hawke's Bay rugby team. On this page, you can discover more about the history of the team and their current squad. You'll also be able to see the side's latest results and upcoming fixtures.

The Hawke's Bay rugby union was formed back in 1884. When the National Provincial Championship was established in 1976 (the competition now known as the Bunnings NPC), the current Hawke's Bay rugby team as we know it was formed.

The Hawke's Bay rugby team has competed in the National Provincial Championship ever since the competition started. However, the team has never won the premiership title. That said, they were crowned as National Provincial Championship Second Division North Island winners in 1979. Since then, they've won the championship division of the competition nine times.

Today, the Hawke's Bay rugby team competes in the premiership division of the Bunnings NPC. The team plays its home games at McLean Park, which has a capacity of almost 20,000.

Although the Hawke's Bay rugby squad is not as star studded as some of the other squads in the Bunnings NPC, it does still contain some household names. After all, several international stars represent the Hawke's Bay rugby team, including All Blacks Brodie Retallick and Brad Weber. On top of this, the current Hawke's Bay rugby team also includes players who represent the Chiefs, Hurricanes, Crusaders, Highlanders and Rebels in Super Rugby Pacific.
