Ollie Chessum Bio

Born on 6 September 2000, Ollie Chessum began playing rugby at Carre's Grammar School in Sleaford at the age of 13.

Although Ollie Chessum was a member of the Leicester Tigers ‘developing player programme’, he left after a year because he found it unenjoyable. A year later, he joined Kesteven RFC.

However, his obvious talent for the game remained and he was selected as captain for England Counties Under-18s. He then took part in a six-week trial back at Leicester. Sadly, he was injured in the second week and wasn’t offered a contract by the club.

As a result of missing out on a contract with Leicester, Ollie Chessum joined Nottingham straight from school. His performances immediately made Leicester recognise their error and, after just 11 appearances for Nottingham, he officially joined Leicester Tigers in summer 2020.

Ever since, he’s been a crucial part of the Leicester Tigers side. In fact, Chessum played a pivotal role in the team’s 2021-22 Premiership Rugby victory. In the final, he claimed a crucial loose ball to set up possession before Freddie Burns' match-winning drop goal in the 80th minute. In 2024, he captained the club for the first time.

Thanks to his form for Leicester, Ollie Chessum made his England debut in 2022. Since, he’s represented his country in both the Six Nations Championship and the Rugby World Cup. Due to the high level of his performances for his country, he was named in the British and Irish Lions squad for the team’s 2025 tour of Australia
